"we used to buy lumber and cut our own pine boards, but not being able to control for knots or moisture content of the boards meant that some boards were a lot more difficult to break than others. Yes, we could cut the boards and dry them in low heat in our oven. . . yes, I know that pine boards are considered the standard by many. But I love these boards because they are consistent in breakability, and they save me many hours of work! We use the 18 mm for our 10 and up classes, the 12 mm for our 7-9 class, and the 8 mm for trials, public events, and an occasional child who needs to smaller board to start on."
